    ARTIFACT:
    This is an extremely rare pennant for the United States Army Air Forces Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS) from early World War II. Part of the Air Transport Command, the WAFS was established in September 1942. Its total membership at any given time did not exceed twenty-eight, and participants were picked from a pool of commercially-licensed female pilots with a minimum of 500 flying hours, along with other qualifications.

    Circa early World War II.

    Approximately 8” in height by 23-3/4” in total length (not including ties).

    Multi-piece wool felt.
