    Description

Up for sale is a vintage 1967 AMPEX 1/2" 4 track tape recorder in good working condition. This is a direct drive machine with no drive belts.
History: This machine was purchased in 1967 by drummer Gary Nieland and used in his home basement recording studio on Rose Street in Salem Oregon. Many local Northwest bands recorded on this machine and released 45 RPM records on Gary Nieland's "GARLAND" records label. Online search "Garland Records" to learn more. Some of the groups included Morning Reign, Zero End, Smack, Dart, Prince Charles & The Crusaders, Geronia Coyle, Tyme, Grant's Blue Boys, The Other Side, Eclipse, The Heard, Cascade Sweethearts, Clint Briggs, Lawe, The New Dawn, Fatt Twice Together, The Wild Side, Raining Love, Stop, Will Logan, Crystal Teardrop, The Third Stone, Jim Thompson, Gene & The Midnight Raiders, The Ultimate, Searchin' Soul Blues Band and others.
Legendary rocker Gene Vincent recorded 4 songs on this machine on May 13th and 14th of 1969. The tracks were later released in England. They were "Rainy Day Sunshine", "Green Grass", "Mister Love" and "Roll Over Beethoven".
After the recording studio closed, the Ampex machine was used to record live bands performing at "Gary & Carol's" club in Albany.
In 2017 this machine received the following replacement parts:
    Capstan Motor
    Rewind Motor
    Reproduce Card
New Cork Pads Where The Tape Reels Lay
Included with the sale are 45 used tapes, operational & maintenance manual on CD and a 6 CD set containing most of the music recorded on the machine by local artists.
